CENTRE ST,
Feb 17 รข Not long after
NYS Justice Gregory Carro held
a nine-day suppression hearing
in the case of Luigi Mangione,
on February 17 he dispensed
with the suppression motion of
defendant Ogletree in a single
afternoon, including ruling
against him. Inner City
Press was there and live
tweeted: In this
case, knife in Harlem, things
just moved from witness to
closing argument The
officer's body cam footage of
the complainant was shown -
the ADA described her as
"frantic," the defense with
some basis said she was more
relaxed than that - and the
resulting arrest was
described. Then - same day -
Justice Carro ruled in Mapp
hearing: Justice
Carro: I credit the testimony
of the two officers, this
defendant tended to hang out
on Riverside Drive. The
officers were told of a male
black in dreadlocks and jeans.
They went to
Riverside... Justice Carro:
There were multiple officers
on the scene which apprehended
him on Riverside and 143d
Street. He went to the ground
and was cuffed, searched and a
knife was recovered at his
inner left leg. He was
informed that a second knife
was seen as thrown Justice
Carro: The officer is an
eight-year veteran. They
received the call of burglary
at 717 St. Nicholas. She met
with a woman who appeared to
be frantic [Defense contests
that she was frantic] Justice Carro:
They gave chase and defendant
surrendered. Justice
Carro: No promises or threats
were made. They knew the woman
who gave them the defendant's
name, and he answered to that
name. They had the right to
arrest him - this was a
typical search incident to
arrest Justice
Carro: The motion to dismiss
[suppress] is denied. And the
statement was voluntary. This
constitutes the order and
decision of the court. Sir,
you could get 3 1/2 to 7
years. You're a predicate
felon. If you think the woman
won't
cooperate..
Afterward, the
defense lawyer was seen going
into the first floor holding
cell to confer with this
client. Unlike Mangione, they
don't have much time to
decide. Extra on X for Subscribers here and Substack here
