SDNY COURTHOUSE, Oct 13 รข€“ A man charged with making false statement to US immigration authorities including about not being a member of the Chinese Community Party nor a veteran of the People's Liberation Army was brought in by U. S. Marshal on October 13 before U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. Inner City Press was there:

...Defendant was brought from Florida. AUSA: For trial we will need to show his membership in the CCP, we know your Honor has trial involving that.

[Yes: US v. Miles Guo, book]

AUSA: This defense lawyer, Stephen Scaring, may be a witness in this trial.  Defense lawyer Scaring: When he was indicted, I told the prosecutor down in Florida we were ready to plead guilty. They said he may have lied about not being a member of the People's Liberation Army... We have taken the position that he was not in the army, nor was he a member of the Community Party. We are ready for trial.

AUSA: This is a multi-district investigation

[The Complaint says Fang lived in a penthouse apartment in Manhattan; the AUSA described weapons found in Florida and the Complaint has old photos]

Judge: Your motion on the Speedy Trial Act can include a motion to disqualify counsel

[Here in courtroom gallery, other than Inner City Press  only other person is furiously taking notes- an observer / minder from the Chinese Consulate / Mission to the UN?]
