COURTHOUSE,
July 6 â A man from Jamaica in
ICE detention in the Orange
County Correctional Facility
filed a habeas corpus petition
in the U.S. District Court for
the Southern District of New
York, where Inner City Press
found it. The
petition says he arrived in
the US in December 2022 at
Hidalgo, Texas, to seek
asylum, and was paroled into
the country for humanitarian
reasons. Then on July 4 he was
taken into custody from his
place of employment, Walgreens
at Elmerce, NY. The case
was assigned to Judge Lewis J.
Liman, who ordered the
petitioner not to be moved
from SDNY, EDNY or DNJ absent
further order of the court. The case is Simms
v. Arteta, et al.,
1:26-cv-5712 (Liman)
