SDNY COURTHOUSE, Nov 28 – Justin Hampton in on trial - or two trials, with the jury to be informed of the final count only after it deliberates on the first four. Inner City Press has been covering the case and the counts and will continue.

Counts 1 through 4 involve armed robberies in The Bronx (a pizzeria on Bruckner Boulevard and a dollar store in Soundview) as well as Brooklyn and Queens. Count 5 is being a felon in possession.

On November 23, 2022, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Judge John P. Cronan ruled that "on November 28 the Court will commence trial on Counts One though Four without notifying the jury that there is a fifth count. Once the first phase of the trial concludes... the Court will inform the jury of the existence of Court Five and proceed with a trial as to that final count."

On November 27, Hampton's counsel at Quinn Emanuel wrote to Judge Cronan seeking to keep out the 911 calls, under the Confrontation Clause, and arguing that "there was no ongoing emergency at the time of any call."

On November 28 past four pm, as on a higher floor of SDNY another jury was selected, the hallway outside the 12th floor courtroom of Judge Cronan was full.

On November 29, the Special Agent who searched Hampton's apartment and found a bb gun and orange and black gloves was on the witness stand. Inner City Press was there:

Hampton has four Quinn Emanuel  lawyer...

Special Agent Quinn who did search is on the stand  Into evidence, photo of a bb gun that looks like a real gun, found in the couch. The bb gun itself is here in the courtroom, in evidence bag with ATF chain of custody.

Now being walked in front of jurors Defendant Hampton, with 2 US Marshals behind him, whispers in (one of) his lawyer's ear as next gun bag in shown. Also black and orange gloves, found during search - now shown in action, in still photo from pizzeria (robbery)

The trial continues.

The case is US v. Hampton, 21-cr-766 (Cronan)
