UN GATE / SDNY, April 6 – North Korea is on a roll, firing missiles in disregard of resolutions of the toothless UN Security Council.
On April 6, US Department of State Special Representative for the Democratic People's Republic of Korea Sung Kim held a press call on which he spoke about a US draft resolution on North Korea as if it had a chance in the failed UN Security Council.
But of course it doesn't. Why pretend?
On April 5, Ukraine's Zelenskyy correctly said that the UN and its Security Council have failed on Somalia, Syria, Yemen, Afghanistan and Libya, and called for it to be dissolved (like the League of Nations). Video & commentary here.
He could have added: North Korea.
While some say that at least the UN is reporting on North Korea, for example on crypto-currency thefts and sanctions, these reports are routinely blocked or undermine by UNSG Anotonio Guterres' good friend China. The UN is a failure, and bans the Press that asks. We'll have more on this.
